Veyron will be looking to win another Group 1 in New Zealand this weekend as he makes his way towards the Doncaster Handicap at Royal Randwick racecourse on April 20, 2013.
The seven-year-old won the Group 1 Zabeel Classic at Ellerslie on December 26, 2012, before placing a close second behind Nashville in the Group 1 Haunui Farm Classic on February 23.
Veyron has won 14 of his 26 race starts and has earned more than $850,000 in prize money.
Trainer Linda Laing feels that an Australian campaign will be on the cards for Veyron this autumn racing carnival.
“He’s only going if he’s racing well enough, but he could have gone to Australia two years ago,” Laing said.
“He’s always been good enough, but he just wasn’t there mentally, but he is now.”
If Veyron does in fact target the 2013 Doncaster Handicap, he will likely have his first Australian start in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes on April 6, 2013.
Veyron will be looking to win the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes this weekend after finishing second under unfortunate circumstances last year.
“Something galloped on him and pulled his back plate off, so the run was full of merit, because he didn’t have much left on his foot,” Laing said.
“Once he got galloped on and pulled the back plate off he was on one rein for the rest of the race, so it was a tremendous effort. He tried his guts out actually.”
